New direct route to Norway to see the Northern Lights

New direct route to Norway to see the Northern Lights

Northern Norway is regarded one of the best places in the world to see the Northern Lights, but getting a direct flight to a good place to see them has been a bit tricky.

This is why tour operator Inghams will be running five departures from London Gatwick direct to Evenes between 28th February 2016 and 13th March next year.

Inghams has created two new adventurous itineraries – one called the Polar Express adventure and one called the Island and Fjord adventure.

Polar express adventure

The Polar express scenic train adventure offers the proper Arctic experience, with a train journey on the Polar Express which winds its way from Narvik to Riksgransen. This is followed by husky sledding, hunting for the northern lights, and perhaps the highlight for animal lovers and daredevils alike, kissing the wolves at Polar Wildlife Park (reindeers and arctic foxes there too). You’l then end the day in the skiing mecca of Narvik.

Costs from £799 per person for 3 nights and includes flights; half board accommodation; excursions with meals included and transfers.

Island and fjord adventure

Explore coastal Northern Norway with this package, where guests will experience the diverse Northern Norwegian landscape with islands, fjords, high mountains and the town of Harstad. The trip includes a wildlife tour at sea; a cruise with the Hurtigruten coastal express; and a visit to a traditional Sami camp, the indigenous people of Northern Norway.

Costs from £899 per person for 3 nights and includes flights; half board accommodation; excursions with meals included and transfers.

Guests who prefer to stay a whole week can combine both adventures on a week long holiday with prices starting from £1,549.
