Adidas uses rubber from Continental cars tyres in a trail shoe

GRIP is one area of a trail running shoe where we need confidence, particularly over wet rocks.

So who better for a trainer-maker to approach than the Continental Tyres, the European tyre maker which has made a name for itself by making tyres with excellent wet grip abilities.

The result of the collaboration are two sets of trail shoes, one called adidas Supernova Riot 3 and one called the adiSTAR Ride 3 and both have soles made from Continental’s Traction Compound Technology.

Dr Fabian Dettmer, Continental Tyres’s expert for rubber processing said that the task of preparing rubber compounds to use in running shoes was a different challenge for them and added,

“We are delighted that with our expertise we can help adidas substantially improve grip on its running shoes on both wet and dry surfaces.”
