PowerWatch Series 2 runs off your body heat and solar power

Here’s a smartwatch that makes sense to wear in the outdoors because it charges up using either your body heat or solar power.

The PowerWatch was ‘born out of a mission to create the best active lifestyle smartwatch experience powered by the energy of the user’. For us adventurers it means your watch will remain always on and you won’t have to worry about charging it up.

So how does it work? There are a couple of modules in the watch made by a firm called MATRIX. One is called Gemini and the other is called Mercury. One creates electricity from body heat and the other from a small solar panel.

Most smartwatches limit the GPS ping time to save the battery but this means tracking your long hikes or runs are affected. However the PowerWatch Series 2 isn’t limited by the ping-time power, because you’re constantly generating electricity making it ideal for anyone mapping out their run, hike or ride.

Not only can the GPS always stay on, but this watch can also have continuous heart rate monitoring and enough power to give you a full-colour LCD screen display.

Another cool feature is that the PowerWatch can record the amount of body heat you’re creating and then give you an accurate calorie burn as well.

And because it never needs to be charged you can continue to wear it through the night and track real-time sleep patterns.

There’s an iOS/Android companion app for your phone that provides even more useful health and fitness metrics, including pace, distance, steps, sleep, and cadence.

It’s also water resistant up to 200m and can work with third party fitness platforms like Apple HealthKit and Google Fit.
