Diving-inspired N°1973 watch from W.T. Author

We hadn’t heard of W.T.Author until now, but it’s a British watchmaker based in Shropshire that makes some lovely adventure-inspired watches.

The brand is about to announce a new design, called the Nº 1973, which has a dive-watch styling and launches on Kickstarter next Tuesday 6th April.

It’s named after the year 1973 when the G10 NATO watch strap was first issued by the British Ministry of Defence.

The W.T. Author Nº 1973 will be available in five colours (Blue, Green, Black, Orange and Yellow) with each colour limited to 100. Each watch comes with two G10 NATO straps, black and orange, letting you switch between colours to suit.

Dive-inspired and has the words OPEN WATER on the face

The people behind WT Author are Sam Holland (who designs the watches) and Jon Shakespeare (who makes them). The pair have successfully launched seven collections since 2013 and the No 1973 will be their eighth watch collection.
“The perfect way we’d hope a wearer to experience our products is as an eye-catching talking point, knowing that the person next to you is never going to be wearing the same watch,” they say.

The mechanical movement used in the watch is made by Citizen Watch Co, and the rest is sourced and manufactured by W.T.Author. There’s a sapphire crystal lens front and back, a screw down exhibition back and crown, a rotation bezel, Super-LumiNova added on hour markers and hands to view in the dark, plus a 200 m/20 ATM water resistance.
