How to find the best campsites in the UK in 2011

THE AA’s pennant rating sign is often seen at campsites around the country and gives us an indication of the quality and variety of services on offer.

The AA has just published its guide to the best campsites in the UK in 2011.

In England theSilverdale Caravan Park in Lancashire won. Located on a rocky outcrop overlooking Morecambe Bay it’s within easy reach of the Lake District and has first-class sporting and leisure facilities, a great family restaurant, top-notch toilet facilities and an attentive, friendly team.

In Scotland the Linnhe Lochside Holidays in Corpach in the Highlands won with its loch-side tent pitches. Just five miles from Fort William the site has quality touring facilities right on the shores of Loch Eil.

In Wales thePlassey Leisure Park, Eyton in Wrexham took the top spot with a craft and retail centre, golf course, garden centre and bar and restaurant.  The top-notch amenities include a luxury toilet block, 30 fully serviced ‘super’ pitches with hardstandings and TV connections and excellent facilities for children including a games room and farmland nature trail.

Every year, inspectors from the AA visit caravan parks and campsites and rate them using a one to five Pennant rating. They assess factors including customer care and hospitality, toilet facilities and park landscaping, based on the inspector’s experienced opinion. The guide now lists over 900 sites giving details of location, AA Pennant rating, contact details, prices, opening times and a description as well as local information.

Editor of the guide, David Hancock, said, “The guide has broadened its appeal as a guidebook, listing local attractions under each location, nearby pubs and restaurants under each site entry, new ‘Best For’ lists to help campers find the best waterside pitches, for example, as well as colourful introductions to key destination counties, detailed and more informative features, and a section containing 20 Walks and Cycle rides. It is so much more than just a directory of camping parks.”

Included in the guide is an AA Camping Card, which can give you a discount off your booking.

The AA Caravan and Camping Britain and Ireland Guide 2011 is available from theAA.com/shop for £9.99.
