We’re a big fan of Saucony’s trail running shoes, having worn the Excursion model for a number of seasons.
The updated Peregrine 12 trail running shoes are now on sale and are 30 grams lighter than the Peregrine 11 with a host of improvements. There’s also a soft terrain ST option that has longer lugs more widely spaced apart, but more on this in a moment.
Peregrine 12 updates
The Peregrine 12 comes in two colours (orange or blue for men and orange or mint-green for women).
A new and improved rock plate sheds moisture more easily and the upper is more breathable and now has overlays to stop trail dirt getting in.
One thing we really like in Saucony’s trail range is the cushioning, and the Peregrine 12’s have PWRRUN™ cushioning along with PWRRUN+™ in the sockliner.
Peregrine 12 ST model
One trend that trail shoe manufacturers are catching on to is customer requests is for trail shoes that can cope with slippy/deep mud conditions. The Peregrine 12 ST (soft terrain) is the mud-shedding, muck-loving model in the Peregrine line.
The multi-directional lugs are 1.5mm longer than the standard model (6.5mm) and they have more spacing between each to shed mud quickly. The upper is also reinforced with 3D-printed overlays and a mesh shield over the tongue.
Katie Pyle, product line manager for Saucony Trail says: “Named for the fastest bird on earth, the Peregrine 12 more than lives up to its name. The latest generation of this renowned trailblazer extends the limits of performance innovation on many levels, conveying the feeling of being light and agile yet further maximising traction and protection. Springy, faster and more comfortable than ever, the Peregrine 12 will elevate everyone’s off-road game. And for those who like their trail experience extra sloppy, the Peregrine 12 ST, with its 6.5 mm lugs, stands worthy to always get the job done.”
The Peregrine 12 and Peregrine 12 ST are available in men’s sizes 7-13 and 14, and women’s sizes 5-12. RRP: £130 / €150.
